From prominent board members and leaders: I have been involved - TopicsExpress

From prominent board members and leaders: I have been involved with the Chiropractors’ Association now for the last 12 years both at a State and National level. In that time we have had ups, downs, and even a couple years of flat lining. Over the last 3 years on the National Board significant changes have occurred that have modernised our profession so that we can enter the government ranks with respect. We have learned to speak their language and they can now understand us. This will secure our right to practice, open new doors and opportunities that were previously excluded from. However, we are still in the infant stages and under threat. With our lack of research and infrastructure, our institutions are under threat. National has set down a base line and strategy however this has also occurred at a state level in NSW under the leadership of Dr Joe Ierano. With his team they have collaborated and lifted student membership, given the first Research Scholarship and helped raise the profile of our researchers in NSW and across Australia. I believe he will be the solid leader we need to take the profession forward for the next 5 years. Yours in Chiropractic, Bryce Conrad “ I see Joe Ierano as our future. He takes the principles of our past but knows when and how to apply them to a modern, mainstream health-care setting. His track record speaks for itself. I have watched him engage with our educational leaders, research leaders, political leaders and grass-roots members and students. More than vision, Joe to me has represented deeds and has a proven record for action. Joe has my support for President elect.” Yours in Health Craig Moore I have known Joe Ierano for almost 25 years now. The first time I met Joe was in first year philosophy class at Summer Hill. What struck me immediately about Joe was his passion for chiropractic and his profession. Nothing has changed in 25 years. In fact I think his passion has grown. Add to that his determination to widen the message of chiropractic to the profession, other health professions, politicians and the general public and I believe you have the ideal candidate for president of CAA. Joe has a dedication to our profession I rarely see in others and I endorse his candidature wholeheartedly and would encourage others to do so as well. Dr Kerein Earney (ex CAANSW President) I have known Joseph Ierano, for the better part of twenty years now. In that time, I have never come across another chiropractor with passion and dedication to the science, philosophy and art, that is Chiropractic. I have also sat with Joe on the NSW Board for several years, and been witness to just how hard Joe works for this profession behind the scenes. The countless hours and selfless commitment to the profession is astounding. I am saddened to see Joe leave NSW presidency, but OUR profession as a whole needs him on a much grander scale. The health care landscape being what it is now and will be in the coming years, we need a leader that is decisive and balanced in their approach with these big issues. We as a profession deserve better, and need better representation. In my opinion, there is no better person for the position of National president of the CAA, than Dr Joseph Ierano. Chiropractically yours, Dr Jeremy Villani D.C. (ex CAANSW board member) I have known Joe for many years and have watched with interest his position on the CAANSW board firstly as public spokesperson for the branch and later as president. During this time I had on many occasions suggested he move up to National. I am therefore delighted that he has taken the step. I believe Joe is the man for the moment. As we move into a new phase of our profession, under the guidance of a national regulatory board and possible move to a more nationalised association, Joes knowledge of the media, the use of social media and his regulatory experience will be of great benefit to our membership. Having spent the last year on the CAA NSW board I have at first hand encountered his tireless thirst for work, his passion for our profession and his desire to move our profession forward through research, cooperation and ethical practice. I think Joe will make a fine president of our association and I give him my whole hearted support. Geoff Irvine. DC (ex everything member) I have been in communication with Dr Joe Ierano numerous times per week for the past 18 months whilst managing the Antipathy File; a collection of chiropractic articles, issues and media matters that require attention, action or dissemination to influencers in the profession. Joes quick replies, background information and contacts have been impressive, enabling us to deal with issues that may harm the chiropractic profession. Joes media releases and radio and television interviews display a confident, engaging presenter who is completely across his topic and carries the chiropractic message strongly, whether addressing an engaged audience or dealing with adversaries. I saw this skill used to great effect in his role as President of CAANSW and I expect his inclusive style can only benefit the National President role. Sincerely, Dr Andrew Vincent Brisbane Im going to vote for Joe Ierano for President. He is one of the most hardworking Chiropractors I know. He is a tireless worker and always does what is best for our profession above all else. He has enormous experience, energy and handles himself (and the press) well and I believe will take us into the next phase for our profession. Good luck Joe Bob Owens Dear Joe, Being on your list not only keeps me up-to-date with the latest news, research and etc, it has provided me a lot of information and resources that has helped me with my frequent interactions with medical specialists and those in other professions that see chiropractors as being irrelevant. For those of us who went through the early days of old little house in Hensen Street, the makeshift practical techniques room which is now the entrance to M2 highway and the storage room in Macquarie University which is now our techniques room, we can appreciate that our profession has come a long way. The recognition and acceptance of our profession is improving. A lot of credit goes to all those in the association and individual chiropractors making a lot of effort to communicate with our counterparts. Not to dismiss the efforts of previous presidents who have stood up to the challenge...you have all done an excellent job. I have been on Dr Joes daily email bombardment for a very, very long time (funny how we chat a lot and yet only met twice without knowing who is who) and his commitment to bringing all of us together with his frequent messages, updates, educational excerpts and etc. This brings us all closer together and informed. Whenever I needed a helping hand in compiling research papers or references to present to medical doctors or to refute frivolous wild claims in the media about the DANGERS and HORRORS of rabid chiropractic, I am always able to turn to Joe and those on his list for help and references. Many at times whenever I shoot off an email with the subject heading of brother-in-arms needs help...I am always very grateful when I receive emails from Dr Martin Harvey, Dr Craig Moore and many, many others (sorry to not mention the names of all of you...theres far too many of you to thank) who will hear my plea and overload my email with references and etc. Looking for recommendations or referring patients to remote parts of the world or getting a good chiropractic referral for my patients who are migrating or travelling overseas is fantastic. I mention the address and I will have someone from Johannesburg reply with the full details of someone near my patients home in South Africa or Mumbai and etc. Dr Joe, keep up your great work and keep your daily emails going. Continue your great work to lift this profession further. Despite all the nonsense a lot of us have faced and gone through, with battles that seem never ending, you have a lot of supporters who will stand by you. Your Friend, Anthony Fong, Jakarta, Indonesia I am a 30 year chiropractor (13 in the US, the past 17 in Australia). I have witnessed the changes that took place in the US, and the changes that appear to be starting here. Let me begin by saying that since retiring from private practice last year, I have converted to a “non-practising” CAA member status. As such, I have surrendered my right to vote. Perhaps because I currently work as an educational consultant and business coach to the profession, I have been asked by supporters of both candidates to share my views on the future of the profession. My observation is that the greatest challenge to our long-term viability as a profession is financial, not philosophical. The most important task in front of us is to build bridges and ingratiate ourselves with health care policy makers. They will have more influence over our future than any other stakeholder in Australia. The way that we will influence policy makers and protect our long-term interests is through academic rigour and quality clinical trials (research) that demonstrates the cost-effectiveness of chiropractic care. Our philosophical outlook (individually and collectively) will not influence their decisions, our intellectual activities and political savvy will. When CAA members vote this year, I would advise them to look 100 years into the future, not 100 years into the past. Mark Feldman, DC, FICC I have known Joe Ierano since his earliest days as a chiropractic student. Even at that time I was impressed with his energy, his enthusiasm, his tenacity and his clear thinking. As the the years have gone by these qualities have certainly not diminished! He is a great communicator and has demonstrated exceptional organizational and leadership qualities in his capacity as President CAA NSW. I fully endorse Joe’s nomination for President CAA National – the real winner will be chiropractic. David J Pryor DC. Dr. Joe Ierano - to put simply, what you see is what you get! He is a friend, mentor and guiding light for the future of Chiropractic. He has worked tirelessly in his efforts to support Chiropractic Research, Education and its Students i.e. your future colleagues! In my experience (and please excuse me as its merely expressed from a 4th year Maq Uni Chiro student point of view) is that in order to embrace our future we must understand our past. I believe Joe encapsulates this philosophy. Joe has the experience, the proven track record and the hardened skin to fight for a prosperous evidence based chiropractic profession. Not afraid to risk all, to extend and expose his own neck to defend what we all must hold true - A united, harmonious and progressive Chiropractic profession. Andrew Callister, Chiropractic Student MU Joe Ierano has dedicated all his Chiropractic professional life to advancing the course of Chiropractic. He has devoted thousands of hours to talking to politicians, educators and the public, and to writing articles in professional and public press. For the life of me I don’t know how he can contribute so much and still run a very successful practice, but her does. In my view he would make an incredibly effective Federal President, as he has already proven in New South Wales. J. Ross Marsh Chiropractor I would like to personally endorse Dr. Joe Ierano for the office of President elect for the CAA National board. Joe has exhibited an unparalleled level of commitment and communication as President of the NSW division of the CAA. He has been able to generate very positive media news in the past few years while our profession has been under unwarranted attack and all the while being accessible to the needs of members. Dr. Ieranos ability to draw together the different practice styles within our profession was most evident in the recent two stream seminar/AGM of the NSW branch, where Research met practical clinical technique. This level of knowledge for the members shows his desire to relate to our needs and to have Unity without Uniformity. The decisions we make Today will determine where we are in the Future and for that reason I offer him my support. Sincerely, Daniel Kostur, B.A., D.C. I would like to put forth a recommendation for Joe for the president position Of the CAAN. Although I am not personally in the CAA I believe Joe to be a gentleman that holds great personal values toward chiropractic and always promotes the growth of the chiropractic profession. Joe is not afraid to stand up against those who try to destroy the chiropractic profession, further Joe is open minded and able to converse with all streams of the chiropractic profession, maintaining a professional attitude to all within the profession. One of the hardest task in the profession is to defend our profession against fellow chiropractors. And I feel that Joe is most equipped to handle this task. Few chiropractors have the ear of all sides but Joe has maintained a professional relationship with all camps. The sad truth is that the president position currently is being promoted like a schoolyard popularity contest and therefore looking from the outside in, it would appear it is the jocks gaining positions based on friendships not based on ability. I would feel that future progress could be severely limited as although friends get along, I think only one way of view will be presented and therefore this could cause more uprising rather than progress. I believe joe to be fair, honest and would work hard toward the growth both internally and externally of the profession. If you keep doing what you have always done you wont get a different result, and it is time for a different result. Good luck Theo Blote QLD I am nominating Joe Ierano for the position of President of CAA National. He has been very influential in my chiropractic journey. My interests in neck and headaches have been inspired by Mr Ierano to discover more. I commenced as a chiropractor. Now I am a researcher in human physiology, University of Newcastle. That is why I am a researcher and chiropractor. He has a passion for developing our industry and encouraging his peers. He has shown me the value of our skill as a practitioner and the effect in our community and our country. We need a leader who can strongly represent us to the government and to other stakeholder bodies. I believe Joe Ierano is our future President of CAA national. Shannon Casinto I have known Dr. Joe Ierano for just over a year now. He approached me wanting to know how he could repair a disservice by the CAA many years ago. He was interested in my story, humble and apologetic for past leaders lack of concern and action. He has proven to be a humble, hard working leader, ready to listen to the needs of his colleagues. He has proven to be a tireless, dedicated, inspiring and motivating professional, and has always carried himself in a professional manner. The dedication to research, political standing and recognition to our profession is next to none. Any outstanding leader will be tested and scrutinised. He has risen above it all. I highly recommend Dr Joe Ierano to lead our attacked profession out of this grave. He will do us proud. Rosemarie Jabbour
