From the Clackamas Review; SO PROUD of Hope Alexander and the Sabin-Schellenberg Broadcast and Digital Media program. Congrats on the great work and the big wins! The All American High School Film Festival announced Oct. 25 in New York that Sabin-Schellenberg student film producer Hope Alexander won the best music video award for her film “Indecisions.” Alexander, a Happy Valley resident and Clackamas High School senior, was also nominated as a best rising-star female filmmaker at the second-annual biggest high school film festival in the world that boasted submissions from over 15 countries and over 1,000 attendees. MTV News featured Alexander through her friend Katie Yates, who spoke about fellow classmate Calen Coates and Alexander’s documentary on cyberbullying. The film was inspired by another mutual friend’s, Sierra Amanda Bish’s, devastating experience. “Cyberbullying is not okay,” Yates declared. Broadcasting and Social Media teacher Deborah Barnes was grateful to give students a rare opportunity to showcase real-world professional standards, and for the support from the North Clackamas Education Foundation, Celebrate Milwaukie, Inc. and other donors who contributed funds for the students and Barnes to attend the event. “The nominations for our student productions thrilled me considering we were competing against high schools from New York and Los Angeles,” Barnes said. “It also made me proud of Hope Alexander’s award and for our other students who took part in both productions.” The director of a full-length remake of “The Breakfast Club” previously featured in this newspaper was also a finalist for the Upcoming Female Filmmaker award. The music video is at youtube/watch?v=Aj_ae3-8ExE. Of the more than 1,000 entries received for the contest, the two chosen from Oregon were from SSC Broadcasting and Social Media students.
