From the comments of Tariq Ramadan and Anas Altikriti it seems there was heavy editing so bare it in mind whilst watching the video but I think the agenda was clearly to discredit Islam being able to play a role in the political destiny of any country. Too many points to mention. What role and expertise do Yasmin Alibhai Brown and Alan Johnson have on such topics, is beyond me. Very biased chairing and to be honest, although very eloquent I am building a strong dislike to the way Mehdi Hasan positions himself on such issues which links in with his reply to shariah law in the oxford debate. Through the discussion there was a lot of mention of not being on the defensive but being defensive whilst making such statements. Moratorium simply means to suspend or delay which in essence is correct pertaining to hudood as the conditions are not met in the current day but the discussion needs to be understood in context of western attempts to reform Islam and to show it as a system to be barbaric and not fit for the current time. Surely it has to be judge on a separate set of ideals and not through a western lens. Shouldnt we see the problem with this dogmatic imposition of lifestyle and beliefs? Surely all the examples of working within the democratic system show the failure of deploying such a method to create real change. Western hypocrisy was highlighted minimally on foreign policy, in foreign affairs they have involved themselves in, regimes they have supported, support of bloodshed, illegitimate regimes. This whole discussion was wider than the brotherhood it is about discrediting Islam as a real alternative and dealing with smaller issues doesnt work unless you explain the wider discussion they link to. ...
