From the diaries of Grandma Wilkins – May 15 1963 – (Wed) I did Aunt Lola’s washing & ironing. Helped Dad with fence. Gordon Cooper went into orbit. 22 times around. 1964 – (Fri) Nice day. I cleaned up the house. Dad cleaned up shed. Sidney here. Mowed the lawn. Mr. Lay at Buckeye Lake died. 1965 – (Sat) Nice day. Dad & I put chicken netting up. Went to Chas. Mack sale, over to Mom’s in PM. Made ice cream in eve. Richard finished Edgar’s bath. Richard got car. 1966 - (Sun) Beautiful day. Dad worked & Jerry & I went to church in PM. Thelma, Ruth & I down to Helen Hoover’s. Paul’s here for supper. Edgar’s, Roger’s & Richard’s here in eve. 1967 – (Mon) Rainy. Sue washed. I finished cleaning cupboards & washed the curtains. Sent 2 hogs to market - $106.57. Dad & Jerry put fence up at brooder house. We over to Edgar’s in eve. Mom & I quilted. 1968 – (Wed) Gloomy. I ironed. Jerry & I hauled junk. Dad & I to chicken BBQ at Sheridan & rode around a while. Stormed in eve. 1969 – (Thu) I cut out a dress. Nice day. Went with Penny to New Lex to get 2 new tires put on car. Set out cabbage & tomato plants & over to Edgar’s in eve. 1970 – (Fri) Nice day. I went to dentist. Got garden seeds & flowers at Green Thumb. We made ice cream in eve. & Richard’s came down from church after pouring cement. 1971 – (Sat) Beautiful day. Penny & I to Lancaster, she got a new chest of drawers. They up to her mom’s for supper. Dad & I got dirt for flowers and trimmed grass. 1972 – (Mon) Cool & rain. Up to Mamma’s. Washed part of her kitchen walls. Sewed some quilt patches. 1973 – (Tues) Nice but cool. Went to dentist. Was down to Rev. Gregory’s for lunch then to have date put on monument. Jerry’s here in eve & mowed the yard. 1974 – (Wed) Rained then nice & warm. I papered some more. Edgar’s here, he sharpened his mower blades in PM. Jerry’s & Ken here in eve. 1975 – (Thu) Gloomy & rainy. Thelma & I went shopping then to Karl Fisher’s funeral. We planted garden in eve. Ken plowed the big garden. 1976 – (Sat) Finished upstairs bedroom. Dusted, put up awning & planted flowers. Rainy. Roger to Canada bear hunting. 1977 – (Sun) Nice. Went to church. Mrs. Lytle of Newark brought a quilt. Up to Sue’s in PM. She washed my bedspread. Lori has measles. 1978 – (Mon) Gloomy & cool. Stopped at Angie M & ordered Tupperware. Lost job at U.P. Church. Worked 8 hours. 1979 – (Tue) Nice. I went to Senior Citizens Day at New Lex. Mowed in eve. Carl hauled 4 loads manure – total 25. 1980 – (Thu) Nice. I mowed some more. 1981 – (Fri) Wrote to Auntie. Garden Club went to Utica, ate at Watt’s and went to greenhouse. Karen R. & Sue H. went with me. Rained all day. 1982 – (Sat) Carl hauled manure. I just messed around. Roger W. here in PM. We over to Jim Poorman’s & Keith D.’s. 1983 – (Sun) Rainy. I went to church. Wrote to Aunt E. I made potato salad for Sr. Citizens. Mrs. Virgil Lattimer died. Omer Hambrick, 70, died. 1984 – (Tue) Cool & nice. 19 from Garden Club to Utica Greenhouse & ate at Watt’s Restaurant. To Timbuck Greenhouse, got strawberries at Jacktown. 1985 – (Wed) Rained. Cattle out 6th time. I made noodles. 1986 – (Thu) Gloomy. I mended. Took my car to Grange adjuster. Got $352.45. Rained. I got groceries at Big Bear. 1987 – (Fri) Nice. I took my car to Sears, got wheels balanced. Rear tire went bad. To Vernon’s they not home. Visited Harold’s. Stopped where Richard was working on Jonn S. house. 1988 – (Sun) Very nice. I went to church. In PM Geo. F. & I up to see Harold. 1989 – (Mon) Rained. I went to Sr. Citizens, was secretary. Sewed border on Nancy Phillips’ quilt & put it in frames. 1990 – (Tue) Sue took me to LMH for cataract implant. Joyce came & stayed all night. Richard & Connie here. 1991 – (Wed) Hot. I quilted some. Went to Southgate & got groceries at Big Bear. Ate at Ponderosa. Keri here after school. I took her up to Shaw’s later. I watered flowers. Jerry mowed the yard. 1992 – (Fri) Nice. I quilted & washed my car. Penny drove my car & we took Ruth to our Mother-Daughter banquet at Lancer’s in Hebron. 1993 – (Sat) Cool, then nice & little rain. I over & helped at White’s open house in PM & Eve. I put wedding ring quilt in & quilted a little. Alva Doomy sale. 1994 – (Sun) 50°+. I went to church. Quilted. Sharon & Gus stopped in PM to see quilt. I went with Carl to Hart’s to find curtains. We ate at Homestead. To Robbie’s. Bryan a baby boy. 1995 – (Mon) Nice. I washed a load of clothes. Went to Sr. Citizens. A big truck upset on corner below Lillian Crist’s. 1996 – (Wed) Rained all day. Anne drove & Helen, Irene A. & I went to an OAGC meeting at Newark. I got sick in eve. George Starr died, 70.
