From the early 1900s The Monongahela Wharf was bustling with activity. Steel Mills and coal mines shipped their loads by river. Goods for other businesses arrived by boat. There were house boats and boats transporting people in and out of the city. There were parades. Now its used for parking. Photos: Boats lined the wharf to take a part in the Boat parade for Pittsburghs Sesquicentennial. Again in 1950, thousands gathered for a parade on land and water to celebrate Pittsburgh Week.
