[From the link with the video of a crybaby] This is no time for nuance. Both sides are fighting to get control of the narrative. The very Republicans, who plotted to shut down the government and are giddy with delight, are also the ones who are outraged that federal attractions have to be closed. Outraged at least on camera. Certain media and elected officials have referred to this as Obama’s shutdown, thus disregarding the role of Congress in our political process. Because this issue is so complex, the more simple the storyboard, the better. The House Speaker, known for his display of tears is represented as a bawling baby. That is a nice, clear statement to send. The fact is that he is not demonstrating the leadership needed to either tamp down the extreme elements of his party or find a way to override this minority cannot be communicated in less than a minute. So this message works well. Boehner makes a nice scapegoat. He is caught in the middle with folks on the right like Glenn Beck and a Revive America Pac calling for his head as well. Or at least his job.
