This journalist trivializes the devices our family members use in the daily battle to manage T1D. The word accouterments trivializes such critical devices as the industry-leading Medtronic insulin pump, which my young daughter dreamed of obtaining for years and which is now helping her improve her health. Insulin analogues tweaked for minor benefits (??) such as the best-in-class Novolog and Lantus are enabling my 14-year-old son to backpack with the Boy Scouts in the Grand Canyon, without me, this week. The journalist does include a Correction to an earlier version of her article that corrects her misguided description of the life-saving Glucagon (a glucose-releasing hormone) as a sugar water injection.
