Frustrated with the narrative presented in the media of who Eduardo Bermudez was, those of who knew him would like to share the REAL narrative. We are holding a candle light vigil tomorrow at 6pm in East LA, corner of Hillview & Verona. This is the first of several actions that are being scheduled. Eduardo Bermudez lived most of his life in East Los Angeles near the corner of Whittier and Atlantic Blvd. As a child he attended Winter Gardens Elementary School and Montebello Intermediate. In 2005, frustrated with traditional high school not meeting his needs, he enrolled in the LA CAUSA Youthbuild program which provided Eduardo an opportunity to work his way through high school. In the program Eduardo received on the job training, building low income housing with the nonprofit Habitat for Humanity, while taking high school courses required for a high school diploma. His strong work ethic led him to graduate from LA CAUSA and soon after began taking classes at East Los Angeles Community College. Those who knew Eduardo praised his musical talent which enabled him to sing and play several instruments. This talent in combination with his proven work ethic led to an internship with Pacifica Radio Network station KPFK (90.7 FM) where Eduardo worked closely with producers of the weekly radio show Enfoque Latino. His work on the show expanded his insight and led to a growing interest in journalism. Apart from these accomplishments Eduardo is most remembered for his commitment to family and as a loyal son, brother and uncle. Eduardos father regularly set up a yard sale outside the apartments on the corner of Verona and Hillview Ave. On Sundays, and for many years Eduardo could be found on that corner helping his father tend the small business. Eduardo and his family had recently relocated to Hesperia. On the weekend of his death, Eduardo had returned to the neighborhood to spend an evening with family and friends in celebration of his nephews third birthday.
