Frustrations, have to share them sometimes. See, we live in a large apartment building (20 floors, 10-12 units per floor, 3-building complex sharing one large courtyard). The building is completely dog-friendly, as long as the dogs are well-behaved, kept on-leash and owners pick up after them. Most owners (including us) are good, some arent. Unfortunately, not everyone in the building likes dogs. As a matter of fact, some people are downright hostile towards them. I try to accommodate people when theyre being reasonable; if I go take the elevator and people who are afraid of dogs are on it, Ill wait a few minutes for the next one. Matilda is social, and loves people. Well let her be friendly with people who like dogs, but keep her close to me when the scaredycats are closeby. Today, while waiting for an elevator, there were 3-4 kids in the lobby, along with their parents/guardians. They immediately reacted when Matilda and I came in, overdramatically running away from her. Im assuming they were waiting for a drive. Then the kids started running in front of her across the lobby, playing avoid the dog?, while squeeing scared noises. Matilda was reacting by pulling and standing on her hind legs, trying to get to them. She assumed the small humans were playing with her, The parents start complaining to eachother about this, I didnt understand the language (middle-eastern), but definately got the tone and the jist of it by the fingerpointing - This is an aggressive dog, trying to attack our kids! Matilda never got to be within 5 feet of the kids. Seriously, if the kids are scared, someone needs to teach them to STOP TRYING TO GET THIS DOGS ATTENTION. There was absolutely NO reason why these kids needed to get from one side of the lobby to the next, except to antagonize the dog. Anyone have any recommendations? I can complain to property management, as others in the building have in the past, but they dont parent and teach kids how to behave, that starts at home. Im definately not going to tell kids I dont know how to behave, thats not my place to do so. Ive tried to talk to the parents, to no avail. Ridiculously frustrating. We need to move...
