Fun Memory - The Joy of Accents So Jessica and I were at a popular chain restaurant in Tucson a few years back. At one point during the enjoyable meal our friendly waitress asked if we needed anything. Id like a water please, I said. Certainly, she said, and headed off. Two minutes later the waitress returned to our table and asked, Hello sir, what was it you wanted again? A water, please, I replied. She paused for a moment, thinking, then asked, Please can I see some ID? At this point Im certain I must have had a puzzled look on my face but I had ID so after a brief, confused, hesitation I reached for my wallet. Sure, I answered, but if you dont mind me asking, whats it for? Now the waitress hesitated again. What was it you ordered? A water. A what? A water. Sorry, what? I looked across at Jessica who translated, A wa-der. Oh gosh, Im sorry! I thought it was some sort of cocktail or something. Fun times. :)
