Fundamental # 10 - Be a team player Be a team player. Our success depends on our ability to communicate and work together seamlessly. Be willing to step into another role or help a co-worker when that’s what’s required for success. There’s no such thing as one person or department succeeding and another falling short. We’re all in this together and we win and lose as a team. Please read the paragraph above several times, think about it and internalize what it really means. As I try to come up with something that is inspiring I realize that if you truly understand and commit to this fundamental as it is written, there is not much more I can add. Sure there are tons of sports related analogies that I could use but I would like to reflect on some examples of teamwork at Webco. First would be Chris Hickerson for development of the “Fundamental Excellence” form to recognize others living the fundamentals. He wasn’t asked to do this, he saw an opportunity to recognize teamwork in others and did it. I will share below what has been submitted. Jose Garcia – He has been helping out in the inspection department and has been recognized by Tom Breen for demonstrating fundamental #16 (Be process oriented) for his diligence in checking the travelers and the information in the red and yellow folders. Pedro Chavira – He has been recognized by Chris Schlup for demonstrating fundamental #8 (Take ownership). As Chris wrote “Instead of just sweeping the area around his machine, he swept around all the machines.” Chris Hickerson – Rob Rosenberger observed fundamental #15 (Celebrate success) due to Chris’s creation of the form. We also have examples from our office staff. Calvin, Brandon, and Amy have been mentioned for their team player attitude by helping others outside of their areas of responsibility. It really makes this easy to write when I have so many examples to use of our own folks demonstrating what it means to be a team player. I realize that this is just a small example of what is happening day in and day out. I appreciate everyone that took the time out to submit the forms so these people could be recognized, please continue to submit these. What I glean from this is the most prominent characteristic in order to be a team player is selflessness and all of these people demonstrate that. Thanks!
