The tuber can be prepared similar to potato; boiled, baked etc. Leaves are also edible. Taro is best grown in a warm, frost free position. In warm parts of the country it can be planted year round, but in cooler parts its best to plant in spring. Taro can be grown in a greenhouse or even indoors of your climate is too cold to grow Taro outdoors. Taro performs best with regular watering and humidity. Taro grows best in a well draining but rich soil. It is evergreen, with multiple stems that form a dense clump. Very hardy with large dramatic leaves for a true tropical effect. Huge flowers resemble birds’ heads and can be used in floral arrangements. Flowers appear within a year in the right conditions. Excellent indoor and potted plant, even in exposed positions, but provide some shelter from strong winds. Flowers are eye-catching, white and blue. Easy care, mulch garden specimens, provide regular water, and slow release fertilizer in spring and summer. It has long leaves, similar to Agave plants, with amazing colour which would provide an eye catching feature in the garden. Leaves are variegated, white with green stripes and outlines. Furcrea foetida Medio Picta grows to approximately 1.5m tall and wide, and does not produce a trunk. The foliage doesn’t have any spikes or sharp edges and is therefore excellent for use around path ways and gardens. It will provide colour year round in the garden!
