Further to concerns regarding removal of a Council Bin that was situated on Queens Street and the littering that was taking place please note following response from WCBC. I refer to your e-mail regarding the above and would apologise that the matter was not discussed with yourself prior to taking action. The bin was actually removed due to a problem with it being used for disposing of domestic waste, it was overflowing every time we checked the location and it became a daily chore to empty. There is no legislation in place to prevent this from happening so we decided to remove the bin to see if the problem resolved itself or if any fly tipping occurred as we could then take enforcement action. To ensure no health or vermin issues the beat sweeper and the mobile beat sweeper both make sure that they check the area as often as possible. To date we have had no enforceable issues and until your e-mail were not aware of any real increase in littering. I am aware that an individual household located in the vicinity of the bin may have been responsible for using theCouncil street bin and NOT there own household bin for their domestic waste, although NO proof exists to tie the household to the dumping of their waste inappropriately.
