G.A. ==> 22 Nov 2013 1. New Chairman of 20th Law Commission of India is Justice Ajit Prakash Shah. Union Government has appointed him as a Chairman. Earlier Justice DK Jain acted as Chairman to Law Commission of India. He resigned to the post in October 2013. Now Mr.Jain is acting as President of National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission. From 2008 to February 2010, till the retirement, Ajit Prakash acted as Chief Justice of High Court Delhi. 2. G.Ramachandran, former Union Finance Secretary, is passes away at the age of 86 years. He was a 1949 batch IAS officer. Ramachandran played a vital role in financial policies which includes nationalisation of banks. Recently he published his memories in the form of a book. Name of the book is Walking with Giants. 3. The Institute of South Asian Studies (ISAS) has signed an MoU with Brookings India, one of South Asias leading think tanks. The MoU, signed at the South Asian Diaspora Convention, would have ISAS and Brookings India work collaboratively on areas such as international trade and economics, India-China comparative studies, international relations and Indias energy security options. 4. Three Indians are among the six authors who have been shortlisted for the $50,000 DSC Prize for South Asian Literature 2014. The shortlisted works include The Book of Destruction by Anand and Goat Days by Benyamin both fiction translated from Malayalam by Chetana Sachidanandan and Joseph Koyippalli respectively. The third is Chronicle of a Corpse Bearer by Cyrus Mistry. 5. Eminent Scientist and Bharat Ratna awardee Prof CNR Rao has become the first Indian scientist to be elected as honorary foreign member of Chinese Academy of Science (CAS). 6. India and the European Union have inked an agreement to facilitate development and non-discriminatory enforcement of competition laws. The MoU was signed by Ashok Chawla, Chairman of Competition Commission of India, and Joaquin Almunia, Vice-President for Competition, European Union, on the sidelines of the ongoing BRICS International Competition Conference here. 7. Ramachandran Awarded IET (Institution of Engineering and Technology) Honorary Fellowship. He is acting as Resident Director Regulatory Affairs at Vodafone India. He achieves this fellowship for his contribution to mobile telephony in India. He received this award in London. 8. Magnus Carlsen Won FIDE World Chess Championship 2013. He won this title by defeating Vishwanathan Anand, earlier World Champion 9. BRICS Nations Heads of Competition Authorities signed a Joint Accord. Name of this Accord is Delhi Accord. This was signed at 3rd BRICS International Competition Conference (ICC) at Delhi. To ensure the effective environment of competition rules among the BRICS Nations and at the same time to strengthen the co-operation among their fair trade regulators by exchange views and boosting communication, Accord was signed. 10. To Central Information Commission 5 new information commissioners are appointed. New Commissioners are Madabhushanam Sridhar Acharyulu, MA Khan Yusufi, Manjula Parasher, Sharat Sabharwal, and Yashovardhan Azad.
