GAME PLAYERS, GAME CHANGERS. I am no political scientist, only - TopicsExpress

GAME PLAYERS, GAME CHANGERS. I am no political scientist, only an astute observer. It is however incumbent on me to take some tacit interest in Nigerian Politics being a stakeholder in the Nigerian Polity and Project. Honestly, i wish i could ignore the political vicissitudes currently bedevilling us, but such apathetic stance only augurs doom for my children and posterity at large who would most likely use the same roads, use the same public facilities, go to the same universities, contest for the same elective offices and run the same pillaged economy. We bequeath what we have and what we have NOT! Nothing! I am particularly unsettled by the game being played by those who, given the right conditions, ought to be confined to the departure lounge. Those whose ideas are as senile as their ages. I will not waste time and space to mention their names. We know them, at least a few. Really, when are they going to Leave (depart) and lets Lead? No serious team brings forward his worn-out, tired and atrophied players and hopes to take the trophy. It is a recipe for a landslide shame. Such is ours with this present crop of Political players, irrespective of the leanings and acronyms. APConfused, PDPolarized, name it. Same of the same...Majority of whom are nearing the point of no return. Why must we be so jinxed? Alexander The Great of Macedon (a Greek Polytheist) is said to have conquered the World in his prime age of 30 (died at 32). Jesus Christ of the Judaic tribe of Isreal, the Saviour of Mankind (Founder of The Saving Faith) and The Greatest Controversy Ever was crucified at age 32 or (33! Prophet Mohammed (Arab and Founder of Islam) became a Leader of a religious and semi-political Sect at the age of 40! Eventually conquered Mecca at 59! This trend is not far-fetched. Mr. Yakubu Gowon became Head of State at 32. Our infamous Mr. Olusegun Obasanjo became Head of State at 40. They held the mantle of leadership in their primes. Honestly, i often have a muted desire that prompts me to always wish they were dead already! I mean, when will that generation begone for good? Death seems unfair to my generation. It almost seems as if there were no births in Nigeria since the early 70s. A man/woman born in 1970 will today be 44 in 2014. I ask, how many 44 year olds are likely going to be or among those presently seeking the coveted Seat of Presidency in 2015? Just like John F. Kennedy who became President of the FreeWorld at 43! Not to now mention those in their 30s. Indeed a generation has been sidelined, marginalized and murdered politically. A political genocide of an entire generation! And here we still have an Atiku, a Buhari, A Jonathan, A Tinubu, A Babangida, An Obasanjo, A Tukur etc. with towering relevance in the arena of Game of Thrones. None, i repeat NONE of these players is below 50! We need Game Changers or a total cancellation of the Game as we seek a more youth-friendly sport. Senility (literally and ideologically) cannot bring or herald this change. Old wines in new bottles will not produce new taste. Death comes for a reason namely- RENEWAL! It is telling us that Old Habits die hard and you cannot teach an old dog new tricks. These present ilk of political game players are old habits that have refused to die, and sadly cannot learn new tricks, even if all they do is Poli-tricks.... What are the options? Wait for the Players to die naturally or Change the Game? I am willing to change the game. For me, it is NOT democracy or nothing. It is NOT Unity or nothing. It is NOT Peace or nothing. It is NOT One Nigeria or nothing. It is NOT Division or nothing. It is NOT 2015 or nothing. It is defininately NOT about sustaining the Status Quo AT ALL COSTS. It is about Change. And my way of game-changing the polity is by refusing to play the present politics! I choose to change the game by not playing it. Until this unfortunate sit tight till its night generation vanishes, i remain a Non-Voting Changer.....
