GARW YMCA CLRNIYAL GARW Y.M.C.A. CLRNIYAL. OVER 925 REALISED AT BLAENGARW. At Blaengarw on Saturday the Blaengarw St. John Ambulance Band organised a splen- did carnival for the Garw Y.M.C.A. The bandsmen, under the able conductorship of Mr. H. Lewis, took the matter in hand with great enthusiasm, and were effectively backed up by their able secretary, Mr. Fred Smith, assisted by Mrs. Dryburgh, Miss Burnell, and Miss Morgan. The whole place was mapped out into districts, and all the districts were flooded with enthusiastic flag sellers. The band turned out in full state, and played very fine music-music, at any rate, that had the effect of charming a large sum of money out of the pockets of the public into the funds of the Y.M.C.A.; no less, in fact, than the highly creditable sum of L15 17s. 6d. On Wednesday, the 24th, the secretary, with his usual insight, had made arrangements with Mr. W. H. Freeman, who is at present on a visit to the show grounds with his round- abouts, to give a night for the Y.M.C.A. Mr. Freeman generously put the whole concern at the disposal of the band, and it is to the bandmens credit that they made very fine showmen indeed. A large sum of money was realised, and thanks are abundantly due to Mr. Freeman for his good and kindly act to- wards this- aaqptudosecving cause,< which does great and noble work in the service of our brave soldiers and sailors both at home and abroad. The sum realised owing to Mr. Freemans kindly action, amounted to no less than £10 Is. 4d. On Saturday another carnival was arranged at Pontycymmer by the same promoters, and for the same purpose. On this occasion they were assisted by the Pontycymmer Ambulance with Sergt. E. Evans as organiser the Ponty- rhyl V.T.C., under Commandant E. Pugh; and the Nursing Division, Pontycymmer, to- gether with the Band. It was a fine turn- out, and deserved, and got, a splendid re- sponse from the inhabitants of Pontycymmer. The amount realised for Pontycymmer is not yet announced. All the arrangements revealed a whole- hearted co-operation to make the collections and sale of flags a great success. Miss G. Morgan and Mrs. F. Price assisted in organis- ing the flag-sellers at Pontycymmer. All Garwites are greatly indebted to the St. John Ambulance Band for their readiness to render services for the furthering of every good cause, and we wish them well. Special men- tion must be made of the secretary, Mr. Smith, for the energetic way in which he car- ried out the secretarial duties throughout.
