GENERAL RECRUITMENT EXERCISE-2013 ENTRY REQUIREMENTS INTO THE GHANA ARMED FORCES Recruitment 1. General Eligibility. Eligible applicant must: a. Be a Ghanaian citizen by birth. b. Be of good character. c. Be not less than 18 years and not more than 23½ years for non-tradesmen and not more than 25 years for tradesmen by the time of call up for training. d. Be medically fit by Armed Forces standards. e. Be not married. f. Be not bonded. g. Be of minimum height of 1.68m (5’6”) for males and 1.57m (5’2”) for females. h. For Military Police only; be of a minimum height of 1.75m (5’9”) for males and 1.70m (5’7”) for females. 2. NAVY CANDIDATES. Trades Requirements are as follows: a. Executive Branch. (1) Seaman Gunners, Radar Plotters. Must have 6 passes in SSSCE inclusive English and Mathematics. b. Supply and Secretarial Branch. (1) Writer (General Duties). (a) RSA II in Typing or (b) Six (6) passes in SSSCE Certificate (Secretarial option) with credit in English and Mathematics. (c ) Stenographer GD II. (d) Computer literacy including working knowledge in MS Word, Spreadsheets and databases. (3) Writer (Pay) (a) Must have either RSA in Accounting and Business; or (b) Six (6) passes at SSSCE inclusive English and credit in Mathematics (Preference will go to candidates with Accounting & Business Studies background). (3) Stores. (a) SSSCE Certificate in Business Programme with passes in 6 subjects inclusive English and Mathematics; or (b) City and Guilds or GES Technical Examinations Unit Certificate in Storekeeping/Purchasing & Supply. (4) Physical Training Instructors. (a) SSSCE with passes in 6 subjects inclusive English and Mathematics. (b) Must be a skilled sportsman in at least two sports with proven participation at district or regional level in Ghana. (5) Cooks/Stewards. (a) City and Guilds (Intermediate or Advance) or (b) SSSCE Certificate (Home Economics) option I or II with at least passes in 5 subjects including English, Maths and Foods and Nutrition. (6) Tailors. (a) City and Guilds (Intermediate or Advance) in tailoring or; (b) Five (5) Passes in SSSCE Cert and Trade Test or (c ) Intermediate or Advance from GES Technical Examinations Unit in tailoring. (7) Bandsmen. (a) BECE/SSSCE Certificate. (b) Ability to sight-read musical notes. (c ) Ability to play any 2 pieces wind instruments. (d) Proficiency in Basic Music Theory will be an advantage. (c.) Technical Branch. Computer literacy is a general requirement for all technical branch applications. (1) Engineering Artificers and Mechanics. (a) SSSCE/WASSCE with minimum passes of C or C6 respectively in English, Maths, Science and two other Technical related subject or (b) City and Guilds or GES Technical Examination Unit Certificate or equivalent certificate in any of the following: (i ) Mechanical Engineering Craft and Practice Advance. (ii) Mechanical Engineering Technician Part I or II. (iii) Ordinary Technician Diploma in Mechanical Engineering. (2) Electrical and Weapon Artificers and Mechanics. (a) SSSCE/WASSCE with minimum passes of C or C6 respectively in English, Maths, Science and two other Technical related subjects or (b) City and Guilds or GES Technical Examination Unit Certificate or equivalent certificate in any of the following: (i) Electrical Engineering Technician Part I or II (Heavy Power Option). (ii) Ordinary Technician Diploma in Electrical Engineering Part I or II (Power Option). d. Shipwright Artificers and Mechanics. City and Guilds or GES Technical Examinations Unit Certificate or equivalent certificate in any of the following: (1) Advance Craft or (2) Intermediate or Advance Certificate in Welding and Fabrication, Plumbing, Carpentry/Woodwork, Painting and Decoration. e. Radio Artificers and Mechanics. City and Guilds or GES Technical Examinations Unit Certificate or equivalent certificate in any of the following: (1) Advance or Intermediate in Radio, Television and Electronics Servicing. (2) Electrical Engineering Technician Part I or II (Light Electronics Option). f. Refrigeration Mechanics. City and Guilds or GES Technical Examination Unit Certificate or equivalent certificate in Refrigeration and/or Air Conditioning Technology (Advance or Intermediate). g. Vehicle Mechanic and Drivers. (1) Professional Driver’s Licence with minimum of ‘C’ classification and (2) City and Guilds or GES Technical Examination Unit Certificate or equivalent certificate in Auto Mechanics (Advance or Intermediate) or (3) SSSCE/WASSCE with minimum passes of C or C6 respectively in English, Maths, Science and three other subjects. i. Topo Draughtsman. City and Guilds/GES Technical Examination Unit Certificate or equivalent certificate in any of the following: (1) Building and Construction. (2) Architectural Draughtsman. 3. AIR FORCE CANDIDATES. a. Administration Branch. (1) Air Force Police. SSSCE Certificate with passes in 6 subjects including Mathematics and credit in English. Also see height requirement in general eligibility paragraph above. (2) General Duties. SSSCE Certificate with passes in 6 subjects including English and Mathematics. (3) Bandsmen. In addition to General Eligibility requirements: (a) BECE/SSSCE Certificates. (b) Ability to sight-read musical notes. (c) Ability to play any 2 pieces wind instruments. (d) Proficiency in Basic Music Theory will be an added advantage. (4) Clerk General Duties. (a) SSSCE Certificate with passes in at least 6 subjects, (Business or Arts option) including Credit in English Language and Mathematics. (b) Ghana Commercial Examination Certificate Stage II with credit in English Language. (c) Certificate/Diploma in Computer Software Application (MS Office) from a recognized Institution. (5) Cooks. SSSCE with passes in at least 6 subjects including English Language and Mathematics (Home Management option will be an advantage) or Diploma in Catering or GES Certificate in Cookery. b. Supply Branch. (1) Storeman/Supplier. (a) SSSCE Certificate (Business Option) with passes in 6 subjects including English and Mathematics. (Preference will be given to candidates with Accounting Option); or (2) Cobblers. SSSCE certificate with 6 passes including English and Mathematics plus a Proficiency Certificate in Leather Works. c. Engineering Branch. (1) Airframe, Engines, Radio, Electronic, Instruments, Photo and Armament Trades. (a) City & Guilds Intermediate/Advance or GES Technician: or (b) SSSCE Certificate (Science or Technical Option) with credits in English and Mathematics, and at least passes in Physics and Chemistry and in any two other electives; or (2) General Engineering Flight (GEF). (a) Either City and Guilds or GES Technical Examination Unit Certificate in Advance Craft; or (b) SSSCE (Science Programme) with passes in 6 subjects including English and Mathematics or (c) Intermediate or Advance Certificate in Welding and Fabrication, Plumbing, Carpentry/Woodwork or Painting and Decoration. (3) Vehicle Mechanic. (a) City and Guilds Intermediate/Advance or GES Technical Examinations Unit Certificate in Auto Mechanics. (b) Professional Driver’s Licence class C minimum. (4) Air Branch. (1) Air Traffic Controller/Operations Clerks. Six (6) passes in SSSCE including credit in English, and passes in Integrated Science, Mathematics and any three other electives. (2) Aero Firemen. Six (6) passes in SSSCE, including Mathematics and English plus driving licence class D. 4. Applicants should indicate which Service they wish to join (ie Navy and Air Force). MODE OF APPLICATION 5. Applicants should complete the Initial Data Form provided in their own handwriting and forward it together with photocopies of the supporting documents to the Director Manpower Planning, General Headquarters (Personnel Administration) Burma Camp, Accra. 6. Applicants must clearly state in the space provided which Arm of Service and the advertised Vacancy they are applying for eg. NAVY – Writer Pay, Veh Mech, etc; AIR FORCE – Bandsman, Aero Fireman, etc. 7. Applicants are to obtain EMS prepaid envelopes specially designed for the recruitment exercise from designated post offices throughout the country at a fee of Twenty-Five Ghana Cedis (GH¢25.00) for Ghana Post services. 8. The Initial Data Form with supporting documents such as photocopies of Birth/Baptismal Certificates, Educational / Professional certificates, 4 recent passport photographs and the small size EMS envelope bearing the applicant’s address are to be sealed in the large size EMS prepaid envelope and submitted to the same post office for special delivery to the Ministry of Defence, Burma Camp. 9. Koforidua, Nkawkaw, Mpraeso, Suhum, Akim, Oda, Abun, Asamankese, Akropong-Akuapem, Somanya, Akosombo, Nsawam i. Western Region. Takoradi, Sekondi, Tarkwa, Enchi, Sefwi-Wiawso. j. Volta Region. Ho, Keta, Hohoe, Kpando, Denu, Peki, Sogakope, Jasikan, Kadjebi. ADMINISTRATION 11. Transportation/Feeding/Accommodation. Applicants are responsible for their own transportation, feeding and accommodation throughout the recruitment exercise. 12. Only short-listed applicants will be invited for physical and final screening. NB: All candidates are to follow Instructions given by the GHQ (Personnel Administration) only.
