GENESIS 3:18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; INTERPRETER: Thorns and thistles here means man will reap the negative things which man did not sow; while herbs here means man will also reap the positive things which man did not sow. Thorns and thistles shall the earth produce for man even when man never sowed the seed of thorns and thistles: This means man will reap what he never sowed. 1. When God placed the curse on the ground because of Adam, he made man to reap the negative harvests which man did not sow – reap thorns and thistles also (Genesis 3:18); but, 2. When God addressed the curse on the ground because of man, he ensured that man reap only what he sowed – seedtime and harvest shall never cease while the earth remains (Genesis 8:21-22): and man reap the herbs also. Therefore, to confirm the correction of the curse on the ground, Noah planted a vineyard and he reap bountifully from the vineyard without any thorn or thistle; he drank from it that he over drank and became drunk because of how easy everything was (Genesis 9:20-21), until problem came again when Noah made Ham’s son (Canaan) to reap the fruit of what his father (Ham) did: By placing a curse on Canaan, Noah made Canaan to reap thorns and thistles which he did not sowed, but his father (Ham) did. So by the curse of Noah, thorns and thistles were again produced by the earth (Genesis 9:25-27). Truly, before God made man to eat the herbs in (Genesis 3:18), God had already given the herbs to man as a blessing (Genesis 1:29-30): Herbs are blessing of God to man, but thorns and thistles are curse. “God causes the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth” (Psalms 104:14): This was the testimony after God addressed the curse of the ground in the days of Noah according to the testimony of (Psalms 104:6-14). There was no more thorns, and herbs became a service to man. VISION: It is not only on the ground that thorns do appear, but also on the flesh of man: Jesus had the crown of thorns on his head in the days he was crucified, and Paul also had a thorn in his flesh when he was crucified with Jesus (2 Corinthians 12:7). But the LORD will not abide thorns and thistles in the day of battle (Isaiah 27:4): As it is written, “And the Light of Israel shall be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame: and it shall burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day” (Isaiah 10:17). Any ground that produces thorns and thistles is a cursed ground, which will prevent the holy seed of the word of the Kingdom from producing good fruit (Matthew 13:7, 22): As it is written, “The earth which drinks in the rain that comes often upon it, and brings forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receives blessing from God: But that which bears thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh to cursing; whose end is to be burned.” (Hebrews 6:7-8).
