GEORGE TOWN: Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has urged Health Minister Dr S. Subramaniam to investigate the authenticity of a claim that three doctors at a government hospital here were practising racial discrimination. Lim said if the claim was true, the doctors involved should be sacked immediately and have their medical licences revoked. “However, if the allegation is baseless, (Datuk Seri) Dr Subramaniam should stand up not only Chinese doctors, but also all doctors based on professionalism ethics and morality,” he said in a statement yesterday. He said so far neither the government hospital nor the Penang Health Department had received any formal complaint on the allegation and the state government wanted a clarification on the matter if a complaint had been made at the top level. The matter was raised by Roslan Saidin (BN-Pinang Tunggal) in the state assembly on June 3, claiming that the doctors gave a lukewarm treatment to Malay patients due to the “Chinese tsunami” in the 13th general election. In response, RSN Rayer (DAP-Seri Delima) said Roslan was harping on racial sentiments while Lim asked the BN assemblyman to provide proof. Bernama
