GET YA RUN ON... So far this week Ive completed 21km of my 40km goal. Not being able to run on Monday means I have today, tomorrow and Sunday to finish up 19km - I love a good challenge ;) I have set a goal of 40km for the next 2 weeks in prep for my first amateur title fight in early Dec. Why run??? *Improve your overall health: higher levels of good cholesterol, improve lung function & boost immune system. Creates a solid cardiovascular endurance base to build other elements of fitness ie strength, speed & power! *Prevent Disease: helps reduce risk of heart attacks, stroke, high blood pressure & osteoporosis *Lose weight: one of the best forms of exercise for losing or maintaining a consistent weight *Boost your confidence: setting & achieving running goals gives a sense of empowerment, making you happier :) *Stress relief / eliminate depression: running exerts excess energy & hormones helping you sleep better & have a normal appetite. When you feel down, last thing you want to do is get up and run. Yet after only few mins of running, your brain will release hormones that naturally improve your mood! Running even just once or twice a week (along with other forms of training) will significantly improve your fitness and make you feel good! For those, like myself, who arent the biggest fans of long distance running, here are some of my tips to get you going: *Music: listen to upbeat songs with higher bpm (beats per min). New The Annual Ministry of Sound 2015 play list helped me run my fastest 1km and 1 mile this week. *Run buddy: set a day / time to run with a buddy & hold each other accountable *Set your route: plan your route & distance. Im more likely to cut my run short if I choose to lap a circuit. Setting a turn around point 5km from start ensures I will go a 10km distance. *Variety: I change my run distance & route every run. Run to explore new places or to somewhere with a reward ie view from top of mountain or bush track leading to a beach. So what ya waiting for... get ya run on :) **pics/video from Weds run to Waikowhai Bay
