GLENMORE FARM REPORT A brief report of what is happening at Glenmore. The weather for October has been very predictable for Canterbury often with 4 seasons in one day and it continues to remain dry so we are flat out irrigating. We started watering back in September which is very early for us. We have finished calving and started mating on the 20th October. We AI our yearling heifers mostly to Semayr Young Bulls using a P G programme which so far has gone well. Our young stock are looking well and we have been able to wean 100 calves. The farm is looking good with good quality milking feed, the next crop of fodder beet has just been sown. 10 ha this year. We have been able to make some very good quality balage also. We have just taken on the lease of a 140 ha farm, 8km from our milking units. It is different soil type and will be a support unit for our dairy farms. We had Ellesmere Show back on the 18th Oct we had a small team and was successful winning Champion Ayrshire Cow and my little grandson, Sam, took his pet calf Emily [check out the Maggie Report ] Cheers for now, Donald Green Click the link for THE MAGGY REPORT ayrshire.org.nz/main.cfm?id=3&nid=95
