GNLF chief to break silence after end of festive season Kurseong, 27 September: The Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) supremo, Mr Subash Ghisingh, is likely to break his silence on the present political scenario of the Darjeeling Hills after the festive season is over. The GNLF that had kept on ruling the roost in the Hills since 1980s till 2007/2008 ~ the time the GJMM emerged ~ was engaged in rejuvenating its long-dormant cells across the Hills before the GJMM started Gorkhaland movement in the end of July. The party kept harping on, including the Hills, under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution ~ Mr Ghising’s pet theme as a solution to the Hill impasse. But the party relapsed back into a state of hibernation after the GJMM re-launched the Gorkhaland movement after the Centre’s Telangana concession. The party seemed non-existent when several other non-GJMM parties were on the scene, articulating their respective points of views. According to the observers, the GNLF had earlier followed the policy of lying low when its chips are down. “Going into slumber and coming back is a part of the party’s strategy,” an observer said. “We kept quiet as the GJMM was holding aloft the flag of Gorkhaland ~ an issue dear to all of us. But now as the party has gone back to the GTA we would hit the scene again, as we are invincibly convinced that including the Hills in the Sixth Schedule is a far better option than dragging on with the unconstitutional GTA,” a GNLF activist said. sns
