GO STAND UPON THE ROCK (May 2014) is a fact-based historical novel inspired by stories handed down by my grandmother about our ancestors who were former runaway slaves from Virginia during the Civil War. The book also includes chapters on the courageous U.S. Colored Troops, and my ancestor – Solomon Clifford from Uniontown, PA -- who fought with the 6th USCT Infantry, and was wounded at the battle of New Market Heights, VA. After the war he moved to Pittsburgh and he is buried in Allegheny Cemetery. The Cliffords – and the Bolden family his daughter married into – have lived in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County for several generations. The novel is supported by historical and genealogical research, but is foremost, a powerful and inspiring story of the indomitable strength of the human spirit, told from a perspective rarely heard.
