GODS COMMAND And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. - 1 John 3:23 NIV The Ten Commandments given to Moses where not given to make anyone Holy. They could not, according to Paul they could only point out the sin, and with it bring condemnation. And having before mentioned them, John would now turn to the summation of the commands. How is it that we trust/believe in a name? We MUST believe the truths the name implies. Jesus is the object of our faith, not only do we believe that He is the Son of God or the Messiah, the Savior. But that he was with God in the beginning, became flesh, suffered as one of us, yet was without sin, died in our place, was buried, rose again on the third day, and now sits at the right hand of the Father to make intercession for us. And will come again one day to judge the world in righteousness, those are the elemental truths that the name of Jesus Christ implies. Not only do we believe in the Son of God, we show that we do by loving as he does. The covenant of the Law declares that we not do harm to our neighbor; do not steal, do not kill. do not bear false witness, do not covet. The Law of Grace says that we are to love our neighbors as Christ does. This is a heavy weight, Christ loved without discrimination, without selfish ambition; He loved the unlovable, of which category we all belong. As we trust in Him we are to be extensions of His love into a lost world, and may God help us to be just that! ________________________________________
