GOLDEN GLOBES 2014 by Fabien Lemercier French production takes the lion’s share of the list of 58 films compiled by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association 13 French (co)productions amongst the candidates Nine majority French productions and four minority ones feature on the list of 58 films compiled by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association in view of the nominations of December 12 for the next Golden Globes which will be awarded on January 12, 2014. A copious total of 13 features that demonstrate the very strong implication of the French cinematographic industry in the global production of quality works. To this we can also add six titles produced by other countries but sold by French companies. France is officially represented by five features led by the Palme dOr from Cannes Blue is the Warmest Colour [+] by Abdellatif Kechiche (production Quatsous Films and Wild Bunch, which also handles international sales). Also in the gameErnest and Célestine [+] by trio Stéphane Aubier - Vincent Patar - Benjamin Renner (also pre-selected amongst the contestants for the next Oscar for Best Animated Films - production Les Armateurs - sales StudioCanal), Renoir [+] by Gilles Bourdos (production Fidélité Films - sales Wild Bunch – French candidate in the race for the nominations for the 2014 Oscar for Best Foreign Feature Film) and two first features Populaire [+] by Régis Roinsard (production Les Films du Trésor - sales Wild Bunch) and Augustine [+] by Alice Winocour (production Dharamsala - sales Kinology). Four other majority productions are competing with The Past [+] by Asghar Farhadi (production and sales Memento Films) representing Iran, Tey [+] by Alain Gomis (production Granit Films, Maia Cinéma and Agora Films - sales Wide Management) for Senegal, The Attack by Ziad Doueiri (3B Productions - sales Wild Bunch) for Lebanon, and Gods Horses [+] by Nabil Ayouch (interview – coproduced by Les Films du Nouveau Monde and sold by Stone Angels) for Morocco. The list also includes four minority French productions: The Great Beauty [+] by Italian director Paolo Sorrentino (coproduced by Babe Films and Pathé which handles international sales), Wakolda [+] by Argentinean director Lucia Puenzo (coproduced and sold by Pyramide), Circles [+] by Serbian filmmaker Sdran Golubovic (coproduced by La Cinéfacture and sold by Memento) and The Lunchbox [+] by Indian director Ritesh Batra(coproduced by Asap Films). As for French international sales companies, it is finally worth noting that Premium Films is negotiating for two pre-selected films (Boy Eating the Bird’s Food [+]by Greek director Ektoras Lygizos and I Am Yours [+] by Norwegian filmmaker Iram Haq), Memento Films International is also handling Ilo Ilo by Singaporean director Anthony Chen, while A Touch of Sin by Chinese director Zia Zhangke is sold by MK2 International and Wild Bunch’s line-up also features The Grandmaster [+] by Wong Kar-wai (representing Hong-Kong) and Like Father, Like Son by Japanese filmmaker Hirokazu Kore-eda.
