GOVERNMENT EMBARKS ON STRATEGIC PLANNING FOR 2014 In the quest to achieve excellence in its service delivery, the Ministry of Social Welfare, Women and Poverty Alleviation has organised a strategic planning exercise to scrutinize the Annual Corporate Plan for 2014. The Ministry’s three days Annual Corporate Plan meeting held in Nadi this week, enabled the executive staff to put together a consolidated effort to refine and project the strategic direction for 2014. During the official closing of the meeting yesterday, the Permanent Secretary for Youth and Sports, Mr Josefa Sania commended the Ministry for the new approach taken to elevate service delivery through ensuring excellence at all levels. “The mainstreaming of excellence within the Ministry irrespective of levels of operation, will ensure that we truly embrace and practice what we preach. The Ministry of Youth and Sports, together with the Ministry of Social Welfare and Women are both classified under Government’s Social Sector and connect in many defined and informal ways. These include gender equality and empowerment, poverty alleviation and social justice,” Mr Sania said. He said such strategic planning by ministries will provide a platform foridentification of realistic targets, smart feasible strategies with timelines and resources to ensure efficiency in government services. “Planning is essential for any organisation as it focuses attention on objectives and results. Through proper planning organisations are able to cope uncertainty and change. Planning saves an organisation from drifting and avoids aimless activities. “It directs human efforts into endeavors that contribute to the accomplishment of goals, planning bridges the gap between where we are and where we want to go. Without planning, action is likely to become a random activity, producing chaos,” Mr Sania reiterated. The Ministry’s ACP meeting has also provided an opportunity for the stakeholders, namely UN Women, UNICEF, UNFPA, Courts Fiji Limited and South Pacific Business Development (SPBD) Fiji, Fiji National Council for Disabled Persons (FNCDP) andSeventh-day Adventist Church (SDA) to make presentations on way forward for strengthened partnership with the Ministry. -END-
