GRADUATE COURSE for FALL 2013: EDUC-L630: "Critical Writing for Academic Purposes" (Section #33057) Meeting Time: Tuesday, 9:30 AM - 12:15 PM, ED 3284 Website: https://oncourse.iu.edu/portal/site/f13.l630 [needs CAS login] Becoming proficient in the writing practices required at U.S. graduate schools presents many challenges to both international and American students. This interdisciplinary course addresses these challenges by helping graduate students to develop knowledge and skills in critical academic writing. Some of the major topics in this course will feature academic genres and discourse communities, peer review, and professional concerns such as plagiarism, academic writing conventions, and APA style. The assignments will address writing goals identified by the student and instructor and will include a major research paper and presentation. Both group and one-on-one conferencing with the instructor is a key feature of the course. The course is especially recommended for students who have recently begun graduate studies.
