GRATITUDE #6: I am grateful to Ned & Anna DeLoach and Claire Davies for inviting me to join them in Bonaire—and to Claire separately for making taxicabs appear out of nowhere, even in a screaming current, to make everything all right. I am grateful to the unflappable staff at Clare Bridge, who meet Elinor’s ornery behavior, based as it is in fear and confusion, with gentle, genuine kindness. I am grateful for the angels at Sulzbacher Center who let me spend yesterday morning with them at their walk-in medical clinic for the homeless—for the respect and kindness they show to their clients every day; for their patience with wide-eyed newbies like me; for the homeless men and women who get up every morning and do their best despite indescribable adversities to get their simple basic needs met. BONUS ITEM: the stark contrasts revealed in these three items (Bonaire, Clare Bridge, Sulzbacher) leave me thankful and deeply humbled. What an amazing perspective.
