GREEDY MPs will still earn 531, 000 SHILLING ONLY The Salaries and Remuneration Commission Chair, Sarah Serem, has maintained that there was no deal yet with MPs to increase their salaries as reported by sections of the media. Speaking yesterday, Serem said that she only learnt this through the media that MPs have reined on her and that she agreed to pay them sh851, 000, saying people should dismiss the rumor because it was misleading. She noted that as far as she is concerned, MPs will still earn sh532, 000 as set in the gazette notice saying the contrary would amount to illegality. She further illustrated that she would not be cowed by MPs’ tricks noting that she will stand by the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. She faulted MPs for feeding the media with lies instead of engaging her in a productive dialogue, saying President Uhuru Kenyatta had made it clear with the backing of the constitution that her commission was the only body mandated to set salaries for State Officers and MPs should get that into their heads.
