GROWING IN OUR DAYS (based on the experiences and lessons in our days) BY: NWOSU BENJAMIN C. Introduction: I have seen generations described as the best generation, the lucky generation, the golden generation, the blessed generation etc. The concept of the good old days is as ancient as the ancient times that one wonders; if the old days are always good for each generation then there never existed a bad day or less good era in the history of mankind. Our fathers complained of the good old days, their fathers did too. And I can bet that their grandfathers did too. Yet a knowledge of history have revealed turbulent and chaotic days, months, years and even decades in the growth and development of the humanity. Seeds of discord have been sown, minor disagreements have failed to be settled, wars have been fought, soldiers have died in combat, wives widowed, children orphaned. Economy has been depressed, the poor have grown poorer and the rich swimming in affluence. Nature has also disturbed the peace; earthquakes, tsunamis, typhoons, hurricanes, floods etc leaving thousands dead, displaced, misplaced, creating some ever-festering wounds of lost, heartbreaks and collapse in the minds of the affected. Problems abound, but maybe generations have found a way of still being happy despite the tribulations. A chequered history maybe, but smiles have been famously carved out from the saddest of faces, laughter have emanated from the most painful of hearts, forgiveness obtained from the badly hurt. Yes, there may have existed memories of heartbreaks, rejection and neglect but love have blossomed from the hardest hurt, acceptance obtained from the once rejected and respect given to the once neglected. Humanity survived through to our time and then we joined in the sojourn; the 1980s and afterwards. At first, they wrote our history; the natality and mortality rates of the 1980s, the percentage of us who died at infancy (IMR), the percentage who couldn’t make it to the fifth birthday (U5MR), the disabled, the orphaned, the number per household etc. We were cared for nonetheless, pampered, provided for to the best of their knowledge. For they knew we were vulnerable and cannot care for ourselves at that time. Then we grew and then truth began to unfold. The evolution of this truth then concludes with one final and easily evident statement: IT IS YOUR LIFE; LIVE IT!!!! To be continued........ #see you next Wednesday#
