*** GSCPT Athlete Update: Daniel Buser *** Well folks, its that time again. Please give a huge thumbs up for GSCPTs new recruit, Dan Buser! Dan is an Irish international Hockey player and personal trainer whos been working with GSCPT on a return to play/ performance programme following a season of repetitive hip injury. Im delighted to say hes now back playing for local club Lisnagarvey and has been named in Ireland Hockeys playing panel for the Rio 2016 qualifiers! Well done lad, keep up the good work! After several months of mobility, corrective exercise, strength and power work, Dans now moved on to in-season power training and is featured here nailing the Split foot Alternating Hang Snatch (or SFAHS for short!) For all you field sports players, MMA fighters or athletes of any discipline that require power/ high force outputs, this exercise has many benefits over traditional power/ weight training exercises like plyometrics and the clean & jerk/ snatch. These are listed below: - High power outputs with varying loads/ speeds - The ability to vary your training program to compliment your sports training e.g. performing light speed days during heavy training weeks to avoid overtraining - Training in a more sports specific movement pattern i.e. with alternating feet forward, potentially benefiting sprinting/ striking/ kicking - Dynamic flexibility, balance and mobility. For a great article on the exercise, be sure to check out the article by Hedricks (2014). Remember, if you want to have more balance, flexibility, mobility, strength, power and speed, you need a good bang for your buck exercise, particularly if working around a busy work/ training schedule. Look no further than the SFAHS. Try hanging around with GSCPT and well snatch at a few splits. GSCPT Hendrick, A (2014). The benefits of performing the Split foot alternating Snatch.
