GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Police say a federal park ranger is recovering after being shot by a woman who then turned the gun on herself. Gwinnett County police said they received a report of a shooting in the Lower Overlook area of Buford Dam Park around 10:15 p.m. Wednesday. Officers said the ranger was shot in the stomach and walked to the main park road, where a passerby called for help. The ranger told officers before being taken to the hospital that he had approached a woman, who was in a pickup truck, to tell her the park was closed and she shot him without warning. Police said U.S. rangers patrol the park and do not carry guns. Officers said they found a woman matching the ranger’s description dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
