Galatians 1:10 ESV / 69 helpful votes For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ. You know it dawned on me today during a conversation with my crew (Work out Peers) how so many times I have failed in the past when I tried to make a life change and be healthy. Too many times the motivation was peer pressure, the change was only partly because I wanted it for me. I don’t mean that my direct peers shamed me into the attempted change, but that what I thought people were thinking of me made me attempt the change. No matter how important your peers are to you, you cannot start and maintain this journey because of them or because of what they think or what you think they think. I was fortunate enough to hear a lady expose a secret she had kept that only she and God knew, she told the story at an AdvoCare meeting. She would hide food she knew she should not eat because of the goals she had set for herself, when her motivation became “HER” motivation she overcame. Its funny you cant hide from God or yourself, no matter how hard you try you will always know and so will he. This journey absolutely positively must be for you and only you, you must understand the motivation and you must be honest with yourself. Don’t hide the things that you are ashamed of, simply stop doing it or claim it as yours. A healthy level that one of your peers has set for themselves may not be what you want for yourself. Set goals that you can obtain, failure is not an option, period. If you know you are going to eat cookies just admit it, be honest with yourself, make it part of your journey and if someday you feel that the food is no longer something you need or you should do, quit it. Now be careful with what I just said, if you have to have cookies set a goal with that too, say for example “I will have 2 every Wednesday” and stick to it, that way you have obtained the goal and been successful. But if you are honest with yourself in every instance you have the right motivation and you truly are making the choices you make, because of you, not your peers. That way when you step on the scales and your weight is not moving as much as you want or maybe you are not as strong as you would like to be, or cant walk or run as far as you want, you know why and if you choose to do better its you that chooses. With this simple empowering understanding you will accomplish what you have set out to do.
