“Garden Tips” Is there a garden tip or two that REALLY works for you…A tip that you would like to share with our group? It could be a pruning tip for a particular plant, a planting tip, a soil additive tip, a harvesting tip, a Winterizing tip, (anything gardening) etc. Explain why your tip is good and works so well for you. I will start with my tip. This tip is great for growing everything! Soil preparation for gardening is like a foundation is to a building. Loose…Deep…Water retentive soil. Using raised beds will make it easier to maintain this soil structure. Adding compost, sand, fine pine bark, and/or peat moss will help keep your soil moist and loose enough for root growth and oxygen to enter same. Too much of anything is not good. Making the soil too loose will make your plants vulnerable to wind damage and/or less water retentive. If your soil is sandy, adding clay compost or other water retentive soils is a good thing. Find that happy sweet soil composition that will give you your best results.
