Gareth Bale skips Tottenham training as Real Madrid transfer threatens to turn ugly Gareth Bale did not train with Tottenham on Tuesday morning as his protracted transfer to Real Madrid threatened to turn ugly. Bale returned from a short break in Spain on Monday with Spurs making it clear he was expected back at the club’s Enfield training ground the following morning, despite claims that a world- record £85million deal with Madrid has already been agreed. However, Bale failed to turn up for training with Andre Villas-Boas’ squad, with sources close to the Wales international telling Sky Sports he is ‘furious’ and ‘frustrated’ with Tottenham for failing to close a deal. It is believed Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is angry with Madrid’s behaviour over Bale – in particular the fact they have already built a stage for the player’s unveiling and have started selling Bale merchandise. Levy’s annoyance is said to be behind Spurs’ desire to ensure Bale is not allowed to leave before their own transfer business – namely the arrivals of Eric Lamela from Roma and Vlad Chiriches from Steaua Bucherest – have been completed. Tottenham suggested Bale’s departure for Madrid is not a foregone conclusion on Monday, claiming they had received a bid for the Welshman from a second club . The 24-year-old is still expected to join Madrid but, unless player and club resume talks later on Tuesday Madrid’s mooted plan to unveil Bale on Wednesday looks increasingly unlikely to happen.
