Gather around gang….it is story time. An employee from a local store called us to report his cell phone had been stolen. It happened in the store. The person also told us he had been texting the phone, offering a reward for the return of the phone, “no questions asked.” Officer Gyoker and Sgt. Dumont listened as the victim told the story…. Officer Gyoker tells us that someone texted the person from the stolen phone and agreed to return the phone for $100.00. They arranged to meet back at the store. Yes, it gets even better. The victim and his friend went to the store and a female approached them. The big deal was going down! She confirmed that she was there for the phone exchange. She said that she wanted to “see the money first.” Officer Gyoker says “I think she was expecting them to place a brief case on the table and open it revealing 100 one dollar bills wrapped in money bands.” The victim told the female the phone was stolen and demanded the phone be returned. She declined to return it without “getting paid.” So, the victim snapped a picture of the female…she smiled for the camera…and followed he to her vehicle and took more pictures. Then he and his friend drove to the Brimfield Police Department to file a report. Officer Gyoker and Sgt. Dumont tracked down the female and invited her to come to the department for a conversation. She arrived there and spent some time denying the entire incident. After some additional conversation and seeing the pictorial evidence, she saw the error of her ways and told us the entire, truthful story. She was arrested, charged and will receive a free night at the county bed and breakfast, for being a contestant in the game for mopes….the Brimfield Triangle. Great job to Sgt. Dumont, Officer Gyoker and the victim in this case! Carry on....Chief Oliver.
