Gavin School District has openings. Dear Parents, I am writing to update you on the ongoing investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Department concerning the allegations against teacher Michael R. Vucic. I regret to inform you, we have received information from law enforcement officials alleging that three teachers at Gavin South Middle School had reason – at some point prior to the police investigation - to report concerns about alleged inappropriate conduct between Mr. Vucic and a minor and failed to come forward to report this information to school officials or the authorities. The Lake County Sheriff contacted my office on September 18th, and we immediately cooperated with their investigation. One teacher has submitted a letter of resignation and the other two have been placed on administrative leave as we finalize our investigation into this matter. I wish to assure you the District places the highest priority on the safety and welfare of its students and will not hesitate to take dismissal action against any employee who is found to have failed to report inappropriate conduct between a teacher and a minor. Additionally, I wish to assure you the District is acting to minimize any disruption to your child’s education. Experienced substitute teachers have been retained, and we will immediately begin the process of interviewing full-time, qualified teachers. I appreciate your patience during this difficult time.
