Gen. Patton: Buried with His Troops Helen Patton at the grave of her grandfather, General George S. Patton, Jr., with U.S. Air Force Color Guard...American Cemetery, Hamm, Luxembourg. Veterans Day November 11, 2013. The General insisted on being buried with his troops. His grave was originally in the middle of his troops, but because of heavy foot traffic hurting the grass of the nearby graves, was moved to a location at the head of his troops. The Generals birthday is also on Veterans Day. Born November 11, 1885. He was 60 when he died December 21, 1945 from complications arising from an automobile accident.
