General Fire Info The Mountain Fire started at 1:43 PM on July 15, 2013 near the junction of Highway 243 and Highway 74. It is burning in very steep and rugged terrain in the southern portion of the San Jacinto Wilderness along the Desert Divide and in the Apple Canyon and Bonita Vista Areas. A Type 1 Incident Management Team lead by Pincha-Tulley assumed command of the fire at 1800 hours on 7/16/2013. The fire is under Unified Command with CAL FIRE Riverside. A Type 3 (local) team will assume command of the fire on Thursday, July 25th. The fire continues to smolder in the northern area of the fire with a few hot spots present. Mondays rainfall over the fire area helped keep the fire perimeter stable. There was no growth in the size of the fire; the increase in acreage shown was due to better infrared mapping. The National Weather Service has forecasted a brief drying trend over the next two days. As the burn area dries and warms up the heavy fuels will begin to smolder and burn. Smoke may become visible from the interior of the fire and may continue for an extended period of time. These smokes do not pose a threat. Crews will be working the fire edge mopping up any hot spots and patrolling against any potential escape. Fireline suppression repair is continuing. Firefighters and Resource Specialists are evaluating the burned areas to determine the extent of damage caused by the fire and suppression operations. Significant demobilization has started and a plan for turning the incident back to the San Bernardino National Forest is being developed. The expected containment date is Friday, July 26, 2013.
