Geoffrey Holder recently passed away at the age of 84. People of my generation would know him best as the guy from the 7Up ads. I also remember him as Baron Samedi from Live & Let Die (first James Bond film with Roger Moore), the narrator from the Tim Burton version of Charlie & The Chocolate Factory and owner of one of the worlds greatest laughs. I looked up his Wikipedia article to see if he had done anything else. It turns out, ummm, yeah : 1) winner of 2 Tony awards, for best director and best costume design for the original production of The Wiz (first time a black man had been nominated in either category. 2) principal dancer for the Metropolitan Opera Ballet Company of New York 3) painter, winner of a Guggenheim Fellowship for fine arts, he listed among his patrons William F. Buckley and Lena Horne 4) choreographer, he had contributed many pieces to , among others, the Alvin Ailey Dance Company, Dance Theatre of Harlem, and the Cosby Show 5) photographer 6) composer 7) cookbook writer 8) author 9) art collector At the time of his passing, he had been married for 59 years, so we can probably add good husband to his list of accomplishments. Sweet Christmas, I had been trying to find out if he had done anything else, and came away wondering what exactly it was that I had done with my life. So cheers to you, Geoffrey Holder. You packed a lot of living into your 84 years. https://youtube/watch?v=6vTs-PLkVqY
