George Burns once said that The secret of a good sermon is to have a good beginning and a good ending, and to have the two as close together as possible. As I look around the various social media it is very clear that the shorter sermons usually get the most engagement. The Facebook marketing gurus even tell us that short posts are more effective than long ones. People just arent used to being attentive for very long on the social media. Well, for better or for worse, many of my posts are of the longer variety. What interests me, and I hope you as well, my friends, isnt just the immediate jolt we sometimes get from a meaningful post, especially if it is short, but the practice of presence we can all undertake as we read, share, and comment. For that attention and patience are necessary, and a certain rhythm. Follow Dennis Lewis, The Laughing Philosopher
