George Fletcher 8 minutes ago Abysmal treatment What people should find completely unacceptable and unnecessary is that a parade of concerned citizens becomes necessary to try to shame our dishonourable prime minister and his caucus for the callous, contemptible policy of penny-pinching veterans over essential and unquestionably earned services most Canadians expect their government to provide. Canadians should not forget Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s sheer hypocrisy of wearing a poppy during his insincere yearly ritual appearance during Remembrance Day services as he cuts vital services offered at Veterans Affairs offices across this country. This government’s hypocrisy even extends to refusing to restore the life-long disability pensions for disabled veterans. Instead, it continues to pay disabled veterans an inadequate lump-sum payment. A class-action lawsuit by veterans had to be launched against the Harper government, which the latter is shamelessly appealing. There are too many individual stories to recall here of disabled veterans not receiving the support they should. Suffice it to say this government’s treatment of veterans is reprehensible. Hopefully citizens will reflect on this betrayal come next federal election day
