Geraldton Report & Pics Geraldton City Speedway held round two of their season last night and all in all it was a great night with some very entertaining racing! Formula 125 Midgets Heat 1 Cool but humid conditions welcomed competitors and a well prepared track was on hand for heat one which saw a mad scramble into turn one, with all seven cars wanting the same inside line. Down the back straight WA #1 Darren Cartwright went high from mid pack and rounded them all up by turn three, going around the outside. The pack then proceeded to battle hard over the next few laps with several passes being made and quickly taken back again etc. By the time they sorted them selves out Darren Cartwright took the chequered, with former sprint car driver Shane Pridham the best of the rest despite a racing incident where he tripped over the front of Danielle Berrys front left while she was attempting to pull to the infield. Pippa Buckley who showed some good early pace took full advantage of the mayhem bringing it home in third. Heat 1 1. Darren Cartwright 2. Shane Pridham 3. Pippa Buckley 4. Daniel Berry 5. Corey Leigh 6. Isaac Benson 7. Danielle Berry Heat two and the action continued with the field beating each other up while Darren repeated his good start to clear out from the field. Shane Pridham drove to a solid second place while Corey Leigh in just his second meeting rounded out the top three. Heat Two 1. Darren Cartwright 2. Shane Pridham 3. Corey Leigh 4. Isaac Benson DNF Pippa Buckley DNF Danielle Berry DNS Daniel Berry Heat three, Danielle Berry missed heat two while the car was run home and new front left welded in place and it was back on the grid for heat three. Darren Cartwright had his starts and wind up lap down pat by now but didn’t have it all his own way with Darren Berry, Corey Leigh and Shane Pridham chasing him hard, especially in the early laps. A sprocket change for more teeth saw improved speed from Berry but he just could not get close enough to mount an attack and after tripping on a hole starting open up, it was all over with Darren Cartwright making it a clean sweep so far from a chasing Berry and Leigh again in third. Heat Three 1. Darren Cartwright 2. Daniel Berry 3. Corey Leigh 4. Shane Pridham 5. Danielle Berry 6. Isaac Benson DNF Pippa Buckley Final Unfortunately, Isaac Benson made the formation lap but the car rolled to the infield before the green flag with a mechanical and Pippa Buckley also suffered a mechanical in the pits and was unable to make the repair in time to start the final. The pack made a cleaner start for the final but Darren Cartwright was all class and put on a faultless display leading from flag to flag. Darren Berry was again chasing hard having made visible improvements his car was the quickest it had been all night but his chain didn’t take too kindly to being bounced through the air when the whole rear of the car got airborne off a rut and it was game over. Shane Pridham in the 21 car was second with a solid drive and Corey Leigh who also got better as the night wore on after moving to a higher mid track line, going around the ruts that had started to open up on the inside line. It paid off with a podium finish on his second time out. Danielle Berry finished forth, also in her second meeting ever which was a great result considering what her car looked like after heat two.
