Gerhard Richter is an artist I greatly admire for many reasons, but primarily because he refuses to be categorized as abstract artist, portrait artist, landscape artist, cloud painter--and JUST paints what he wants. Looking through his oeuvre you can see that he worked in many styles and many subjects--concurrently. Abstracts and Atmospheres from 1985. I dont think anyone would say to him that hes a country singer trying to put out a pop album when he paints something new.
