Get ready to hate me. No really. Start typing your comments now. So I finally got to see Frozen the other day. It was okay. Definitely not bad but its not the amazing game changing cinematic accomplishment that the entire world has made it out to be. I do think its one of the best Disney animated films to come out in recent years, but thats not saying much when you consider that their animated movies (excluding Pixar) have pretty much all sucked since the mid 90s. I certainly did like Frozen. The animation was beautiful, some of the songs were really good and I enjoyed the sister dynamic. But I felt like it just didnt match the praise that every person in the world has been giving it. Olaf was pretty funny and gave me a few good laughs. I dont have a skull...or bones. But his voice irritated me as did his song about summertime. I think if they had someone else do the voice and rewrote the song it would be much more tolerable. I also like that it provided a few twists. Early in the film we are introduced to the ambassador from Weasleton and are flat out told in his first scene that hes the villain. But it turns out he kinda isnt. Someone else is the villain, I wont spoil it in case you havent seen it yet. While the reveal really came out of nowhere it definitely surprised me. But it also greatly bugged me because of how it just literally came out of nowhere. There was no build up or anything. Just oh hey. Im the bad guy. Anna and Elsa were amazing characters and I liked that the whole film was about their relationship instead of focusing on the typical girl and guy falling in love cliche that Disney is known for. Its there but it plays second to the sister relationship and I enjoyed that. Let It Go, though Ive heard it a thousand times before seeing the movie, was still great. My other two favorite songs were For The First Time In Forever (i cant tell if im elated or just gassy, but im somewhere in that zone) and Love Is An Open Door (we finish each others-sandwiches!) I think my main problem with the movie wasnt so much with the movie itself but instead everyones reaction to it. For the past two months you couldnt go anywhere on the Internet without seeing something Frozen. Videos, memes, images, fan theories, fan art, etc. Just an over saturation. I basically knew the story inside and out before ever seeing it simply because it couldnt be avoided. So when I finally saw it, it never met up with the hype and praise. So for me, this was an okay film. Good, not great. But Im glad to see Disney going back to their roots by making musicals again. Ive missed them so.
