Get to know Tom Rowe, vocalist and member of the RNCM Session Orchestra... Tom Rowe, 19, originally from Wigan; is a talented young musician operating in the North West of England. Having been a performer since the age of 14 Tom has a strong passion for all types of music and the music business. After performing ‘White Christmas’ at High School in 2008, his love for music grew. Tom regularly gigs around the North West and performs as both part of a band and solo, both on vocals and guitar. After discovering his passion for music at school in 2008, Tom went on to perform at a number of live performances at school, and outside of school. In early 2009, Tom was part of a 100 strong choir, performing at a number of venues around the region, and was shortlisted to take a solo role during the choir piece. After performing a number of times in school, in assemblies, awards evenings and concerts, Tom decided to do some guitar tuition alongside his studies and performances. In late 2009 Tom got together with a good friend and formed an acoustic duo band, Too Many Toms. As part of Too Many Toms, Tom performed at private functions and paid gigs, often to audiences over 200 people. Whilst performing in Too Many Toms, Tom also was studying at Winstanley College, where he played several events and functions. Whilst at Winstanley College Tom studied music technology, learning about the key elements of music, musical arrangement and musical analysis; as well as learning the in depth details of recording, mixing and producing professional standard recordings. Along side this, Tom achieved his grade 2, 3, and 5 music theory awards. One of his greatest achievements to date is gaining a place at the Royal Northern College of Music, as a vocalist on the up-and-coming Popular Music Performance BA(Hons) Degree. As part of this course Tom performs at a number of great venues around Manchester and learns the fundamentals and the details about being a musician in the business; whether that be as a session singer, function singer, musical theatre. Tom was lucky enough to be selected to take a lead role as a vocalist in the RNCM Session Orchestra in late 2012, performing in a 45 minute concert on January 11th 2013, with a classical orchestral ensemble. This was then followed by a full 2 hour concert in the RNCM Theatre in November 2013. Tom, although playing guitar and a few other instruments too, is primarily a vocalist. Tom’s voice has a very distinctive tone which can blend seamlessly into a number of styles such as Pop, Jazz/Swing, Blues, Rock and Acoustic numbers. As well as having a strong chest voice, Tom also has a very strong and definitive falsetto range which has been likened to great singers such as Adam Levine (Lead Singer of Maroon 5), Mika and Patrick Monahan (Lead singer of Train). After leaving the RNCM, Tom would like to break into the performance side of music, focusing on session work, solo recording/performing, band recording/performing or musical theatre. Some of Tom’s notable performances include playing with the RNCM Session Orchestra, playing with the function band Under the Covers and playing at the Royal Albert Halls as part of the Music for Youth Festival 2013.
