Getting down the heart rate at a vet check or hold, or at the end - TopicsExpress

Getting down the heart rate at a vet check or hold, or at the end of cross country, when it`s a hot day, usually involves getting down the temperature of the horse. The old advice, wash with cold water, scrape, repeat is a big part of this. Also, stand them in the shade if there is any. If they allow ice in the water (competitive trail does NOT) use it if you can get some. Walk between some of the washing episodes. Work in vet holds to improve your horsemanship skills and knowledge about this.
