Twins Jada and Jaidyn Hamilton, 11, sixth-graders at University Preparatory Science and Math in Detroit, also say they’re in it to win it. “Chess is cool, and it’s good for the mind,” said Jada, who is two minutes older. “It helps me in school, because after I began playing, my grades went up in math.” Jaidyn has a philosophical outlook. “It makes me feel good to play chess because I’m in charge of this kingdom, and I control what is going on,” she said with a sweeping gesture. “My goal is to attack the king and once I do that and say ‘checkmate,’ it makes me feel good, especially if I’m playing against a high-rated player.” Their mom, Kamisha Hamilton, said the twins asked her if they could join the club. “I thought it was awesome because it helps them not only in school, but in learning life lessons,” said Hamilton. “It teaches them good sportsmanship, and how to keep a good attitude even when things don’t go your way.” From The Detroit News: detroitnews/article/20140322/METRO01/303220021#ixzz2wiWgp041
