GiNié W. Harris Named Realtor® of the Month by GLVAR Your neighborhood Realtor® receives prestigious honor immediately before celebrating her 13th year with Rossum Realty Las Vegas, NV – January 27, 2014– On October 11, 2013 during a stately banquet at the Orleans Hotel & Casino, GiNié W. Harris was presented the honor of being named Realtor® of the Month for October of 2013 by theGreater Las Vegas Association of Realtors® in front of a room of her colleagues, associates, and friends. She was nominated by Lance Alderette, a Realtor® with Rossum Realty for 15 years. GiNié is celebrating her 13th anniversary with Rossum Realty this month. Lance chose to nominate GiNié after overhearing discussion around the office regarding a property she had listed on 14th and Stewart in Downtown Las Vegas. The property, owned by an elderly and infirmed resident of the historic McNeil neighborhood, was left to tenants and in disrepair due to the owner’s circumstances until the decision was made to finally list it for ale in February of 2013. GiNié took the listing and almost immediately following the property caught fire. At that time it was discovered that the property had been overtaken by vagrants, was in deplorable condition, and it had become a nuisance home to the surrounding neighborhood. The city and the health department condemned the house immediately as it was a health hazard with no power, gas, or working plumbing. Rather than burden the elderly owner with the task of bringing the property back up to code and arranging to have it returned to a sellable condition, GiNié took it upon herself, at her own expense, to board up the home and begin the clean up process. With the help of some hired hands, they donned full HAZMAT suits and proceeded to work cleaning and repairing the property. Within 3 days, the home met all criteria to pass health and city inspections and was in sellable condition; a sale was closed within 3 months. When confronted by coworker Lance Alderette about the story he overheard regarding the home on 14th and Stewart, GiNié responded, “I was just doing my job.” Even prior to the property that earned her the nomination, GiNié was known to go above and beyond, particularly for her beloved VVARO neighborhood, the neighborhoods bordered by Valley View, Alta, Rancho, and Oakey consisting of McNeil, Glen Heather, Westleigh, Rancho Bonito, Scotch 80s, Spanish Oaks, Rancho Nevada Estates, Las Vegas Historical Neighborhood, Rancho Circle, Rancho Bel Air, and the various unincorporated pockets nearby. She was known to frequently help these community buyers and sellers repair their homes and move their belongings. On more than one occasion, she personally cleaned near-hoarding situations and made significant repairs. For one home, she spent a full winter’s day pumping out and cleaning the sludge at the bottom of an enormous pool to ready it for a home inspection – this was done for the buyer’s benefit although she was only hired to represent the seller. GiNié grew up in Las Vegas and has lived in the VVARO neighborhood since 1996. She began in the Alta-Rancho-Palomino area until recently relocating and restoring a home in Westleigh. Her parents lived in the same school district as her current home since 1985 and GiNié considered this downtown West area her home since the 9th grade. Over her lifetime, GiNié has seen friends and family move on from the neighborhood only to return, and has seen the children of former residents return as well. She believes that the deep roots formed here drive people back to this historic, unique area of Las Vegas. For the VVARO community, GiNié is a community booster who believes in the restoration and preservation of these gem neighborhoods where she diligently works to foster and nurture relationships. Since becoming a Realtor®, she has worked with buyers and sellers for over 30 properties in this area alone. 2013 was her 9th year hosting the Annual Community Yard Sale. This VVARO event is held on the first Saturday of November each year. This past event had 34 households that participated. GiNié singlehandedly organizes the entire event including all marketing, advertising, signage, and provides light refreshments. At the end of the event, she coordinates a truck to take any remaining items that the participants would like to donate to charity. She also has an annual tradition where she thanks her neighborhood clients and friends with the gift of a Marie Calendar pie. Typically she hand delivers approximately 150 pies. For the past 6 years, she has done this as a gesture of gratitude and support to the neighborhood. GiNié W. Harris is a tireless advocate for the Valley View, Alta, Rancho, and Oakey neighborhoods and a genuine asset to the community.
