Girl, 7, Tossed 50 Feet From SUV Struck By Metra Train ROUND LAKE PARK (CBS) — A crash between a Metra train and an SUV has claimed a second victim, after a 7-year-old girl’s body was found 50 feet away from the vehicle on Wednesday. A Milwaukee District/North Line train struck an SUV as it was crossing the tracks in Round Lake Park around 6 p.m. Wednesday, near Route 134 and Porter Drive. The train was going approximately 60 mph at the time of the crash. Initially, authorities said a 36-year-old man was killed in the crash. Thursday morning, the Lake County Coroner’s office confirmed a 7-year-old girl also was killed. Sources told CBS 2 the girl’s body was found about an hour after the crash, as police were taking measurements at the scene. Police found her approximately 50 feet away from the SUV, lying in a ditch. A Metra spokesman said Wednesday the SUV might have gone around or under the crossing gates, which were knocked down in the crash. The names of the victims were not being released as of late Thursday morning. Autopsies for both victims were scheduled for Thursday.
